Investing
I have spent most of my career in Private Equity working with growing businesses and management teams across Australia and the UK. I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to work closely with ambitious founders and management teams in helping to shape and grow their business by understanding what they are trying to achieve, helping them think through and execute on important strategic decisions and supporting them through periods of growth and change.
My experience has given me exposure to a broad range of situations, from acquisitions and financing through to strategic initiatives and Board-level discussions. Over time, this has reinforced my view that successful investing is ultimately about the people and culture within the business and learning how to empower and align everyone towards a common goal. Every business is different, but every successful partnership I have seen or been fortunate enough to be a part of, has always been built with the foundations of a strong relationship with the management team, and an environment that fosters a collaborative and transparent culture throughout the entire business.
I grew up in Sydney, and team sports played a big part in my life from an early age. Cricket was my main focus and gave me the opportunity to play at a high level, captain teams and spend a season playing in the UK after finishing school. A lot of what I enjoy about investing reflects what I enjoy about team sport; working with different personalities, training & working hard to be competitive, and contributing towards a clearly communicated and shared goal amongst the team.
I later moved from Sydney to London, which has given me the chance to experience a different market and build a life in the UK. Outside of work, sport is still a big part of my life, although these days I spend more time in the gym, running, cycling and swimming as opposed to playing cricket (although I'll still try my hand at some park cricket with mates!). I have completed several triathlons, including three 70.3 Ironmans and a full Ironman, and will try my hand at a few more if the knee can hold up!
